Chapter One, First Entry

One day Rabbit was having a nap in the sun, just behind the big rose bush.

Wren popped down from her tree to have a little chat.

"Rabbit, why on earth are you sleeping? The sun is shining, the grass is green, and you haven't smelled the flowers all day long! Wake up!" Wren said all this very quickly and in a sing-song voice.

Rabbit was rather startled, he was having such a lovely dream. Carrots and cabbages and greenery everywhere. Lots to nibble you know?

"Wren! I was having a dream about carrots and you've made me wake up! Now what will I do?"

Wren looked at Rabbit as seriously as she could, for wrens are not known for being serious at all, and said sweetly, "Dreaming of carrots is very silly, especially when real carrots are available to be had very easily. And what if something rather mean had come by, you would never have seen them?"

Carrots and mean creatures are definitely serious subjects, but Rabbit turned over on his tummy and gave a little yawn. He knew quite well that Wren would have warned him if a human child was coming near, or that dangerous Fox.

"Oh dear Wren, you are quite mistaken. Nothing bad ever happens in our Sweet Wood. But, thank you anyway. I suppose I better have some lunch. But what did you say about carrots?"
